Devotional: Gasp! Gasp! Gasp! Have you ever been near someone as they breathe their last breaths? We humans are designed to survive, yet we die. The process of dying is something we know we are to fight. We want to spend one more day with those we love.

To have peace in death is a divine work because it goes against our instincts. If we didn’t try to live we wouldn’t be on this planet long, but there comes a time when the fight is futile and we must let go. Jesus embraced this. He recognized it was his time to depart and we committed himself to the Father. He was aware that every day was a gift from his Father so if his Father wanted him to come home the only thing to do is submit.

Prayer:   Father, you know how many days I have to live on this planet. Help me to use them wisely for your glory.

Action Step:  Consider Christ’s legacy. What do you sense he wants to leave behind through your life when you die?    Ask yourself how you view loved ones who have died. Did they leave you with positive memories? Is there a sense in which their life still impacts you though it is gone now?  Write down the kind of life you think would leave a legacy behind for the Kingdom.
